Staffordshire's Chief Fire Officer is urging people to take extra care following the announcement of a 24 hour strike by the Fire Brigades Union (FBU).

"The number of incidents has decreased during all of the previous periods of industrial action which is in no small way due to the vigilance of our communities. Residents can continue to assist us by taking some simple steps such as testing your smoke alarms, running through your escape plan and making sure you get into the routine of turning electrical items off and shutting doors before going to bed."

What exactly is a fire door?. In basic terms, it's a door that is designed to prevent a fire from a fire spreading throughout the building. When used as part of a property's protection scheme it should allow the occupants to reach safety. Click on the link for more information and some great online prices on Buy Internal Fire Doors UK.

The industrial action will take place from 7am on Wednesday, February 25 to 7am on Thursday, February 26.

Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford, also President of the Chief Fire Officers Association, said: "We would once again urge residents to be particularly cautious while at home and on the roads during next week's strike. As always, contingency plans will be put in place and we will answer all 999 calls. We will attend life threatening incidents but it will not be business as usual for us.

This will be the14th round of strike action to be held since the dispute between the FBU and the Government began in September 2013 over pensions.
